Kano Pillars have appointed former Remo Stars head coach and Super Eagles assistant coach Daniel Ogunmodede as their new Technical Adviser ahead of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

The Sai Masu Gida confirmed the appointment on their official X account on Friday as the club continues its rebuilding process under newly appointed Chairman Alhaji Ahmad Musbahu Garo.

Ogunmodede arrives in Kano with a reputation as one of the country’s most accomplished domestic coaches, having played a pivotal role in transforming Remo Stars into one of the NPFL’s leading clubs.

The 46-year-old joined Remo Stars as an assistant coach in 2015 and helped the Ikenne-based side secure promotion to the NPFL for the first time in the club’s history the following year. During his stint at the club, he also oversaw the Remo Stars youth team, contributing significantly to the development of the Beyond Limits Football Academy.

He was appointed head coach of Remo Stars in 2020 and guided the club back to the NPFL in September 2021. Later that year, Ogunmodede briefly moved to Portugal, serving as assistant manager to Rui Ferreira at CD Feirense before returning to Remo Stars in 2022.

Upon his return, he steered the Sky Blue Stars to consecutive second-place finishes in the NPFL in 2023 and 2024, laying the foundation for an even greater achievement. On April 27, 2025, Ogunmodede made history by leading Remo Stars to their maiden NPFL title, ending the club’s wait for domestic league success.

Beyond his club achievements, Ogunmodede has also built an impressive résumé on the international stage. He guided the Super Eagles B team to qualification for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) while also working as an assistant with the senior national team.

Kano Pillars will hope Ogunmodede can replicate the success he enjoyed at Remo Stars as they seek a turnaround following a disappointing 2025/26 campaign.

The four-time NPFL champions finished 16th last season, narrowly avoiding relegation, and will be aiming for a significant improvement under their new technical adviser.
