Premier League side Brentford have secured the long-term future of Super Eagles-eligible defender Michael Kayode, with the club confirming he has signed a new contract that will keep him at the Gtech Community Stadium until the summer of 2032, Boldsports report.

The agreement also includes an option to extend his stay by an additional year, underlining Brentford’s confidence in the young full-back ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Kayode enjoyed an outstanding 2025/26 campaign. He made 56 appearances in all competitions since joining from Fiorentina, initially on loan in January 2025. The 22-year-old scored his first Brentford goal against Wolves, added two Premier League assists, missed only one league match last season, and earned a nomination for the Premier League Young Player of the Season award after helping the Bees finish ninth.

‎The Nigerian-eligible defender expressed his happiness after committing his future to the Premier League club.

‎”Signing a new contract at the club is an amazing sensation, so I’m really happy.”

‎”I feel like this club is a family, so I wanted to continue my journey here. I have amazing relationships that make me really like coming in for the morning to train and have fun with my team-mates, the staff and all the people around.”

‎”Ever since I joined the club, everything has been amazing. It feels like I’ve been playing for Brentford for 10 years.”

‎”I’ve improved a lot on the pitch and outside of the pitch. That’s really important for me.”

‎Brentford head coach Keith Andrews believes the new deal reflects Kayode’s rapid development since arriving in West London.

‎”Michael had an amazing season last year.”

‎”He epitomised everything good that we do. His development and evolution has been really, really impressive.”

‎”Michael’s someone that we love working with every single day, who comes in with such an enthusiastic demeanour, and is a joy to be around and to coach.”

‎”We’re absolutely delighted that he wants to stay because we love having him here, and this new contract is absolutely deserved.”

‎Born in Italy to Nigerian parents, Kayode remains eligible to represent the Super Eagles despite featuring for Italy at youth level.

‎He spent seven years in Juventus’ academy before joining Gozzano, where he scored two goals and supplied two assists in 34 matches during the 2020/21 season, helping the club earn promotion to Serie C.

‎His performances earned him a move to Fiorentina. He made his Serie A debut against Genoa in 2023 and later became a regular, making 49 appearances and helping the club reach the 2024 UEFA Conference League final.

‎Kayode joined Brentford on loan in January 2025 before the move became permanent. Since then, he has developed into one of the club’s most dependable defenders, making a strong impact with his defensive consistency, attacking quality and trademark long throws.

‎His new contract represents another major step in his career while keeping alive the possibility of a future call-up to Nigeria’s senior national team.
