‎Japan head coach Hajime Moriyasu praised his players’ preparation and the backing of the team’s supporters after the Blue Samurai secured an emphatic 4-0 victory over Tunisia at the FIFA World Cup 2026.

‎The win in Monterrey moved Japan level on points with the Netherlands at the top of Group F and left them on the verge of reaching the knockout stage. Daichi Kamada opened the scoring in the fourth minute before Ayase Ueda produced a standout display, scoring twice and providing an assist. Junya Ito also got on the scoresheet as Japan dominated throughout the historic contest, which marked the 1,000th match in FIFA World Cup history.

‎Japan’s attacking unit has played a key role in the team’s strong start to the tournament. Kamada has now scored twice at the World Cup, while Ueda delivered one of his most influential performances of the campaign with two goals and an assist against Tunisia.

‎Following the victory, Moriyasu pointed to the team’s work behind the scenes as a major factor in the result.

‎”We prepared well for what we wanted to do and played aggressively. During our preparations, the coaching staff made it clear what we needed to do, and because of that the players were able to perform to their full potential.”

‎Japan took control early and never allowed Tunisia to settle into the game. Their pressing, movement and clinical finishing reflected the game plan that Moriyasu and his staff had worked on before the match.

‎Moriyasu also reserved special praise for the Japanese fans who travelled to Mexico to support the team.

‎”Many Japanese supporters came here to Monterrey, sang the national anthem with us and cheered us on loudly. Their support was a huge boost for us.”

‎The result strengthened Japan’s chances of advancing from Group F and reinforced their growing reputation as one of the tournament’s most impressive teams. With confidence high and knockout qualification within reach, Moriyasu’s side will now look to carry their momentum into their next World Cup assignment.
