Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has expressed strong belief that Galatasaray can complete the job against Liverpool FC in the second leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 clash, insisting the Turkish side has the quality to cause problems at Anfield.
The Nigerian forward spoke after Galatasaray secured a narrow 1–0 victory in the first leg in Istanbul, a result that gives the Turkish champions a valuable advantage heading into the return fixture in England.
Galatasaray’s winning goal came through midfielder Mario Lemina, who finished off a move created by Osimhen. The striker’s assist proved decisive in a tightly contested encounter in which the Turkish side combined defensive organisation with moments of attacking quality.
The victory also continued Galatasaray’s recent success against Liverpool in European competition, as the Istanbul club maintained a strong record against the English side in recent meetings.
The match itself was played in a charged atmosphere at RAMS Park, where thousands of home supporters created a striking visual display before kick-off. The emotional reception appeared to have a visible impact on Osimhen, who was seen wiping away tears during the pre-match choreography.

Speaking after the match during a television interview, Osimhen reflected on the moment and the bond he has developed with the club since his arrival.
“I have been very happy since I arrived in this jersey,” he said. “This jersey is very special. I wanted to do my best for these fans.”
The striker also revealed that the emotional display from supporters had a deeper personal meaning.
“I lost my mother at a very young age. That’s why it’s very important to me.”
The forward was accompanied by his child during the post-match broadcast, further highlighting the personal nature of the evening for the Nigerian international.
Despite the narrow margin of victory, Osimhen made it clear that Galatasaray will travel to England believing they can finish the tie strongly.

“I think we can hurt Liverpool in the second leg,” he said. “We have done a good job so far.”
The striker also emphasised the unity between the players and supporters as a key factor behind the team’s performance. “We are a family together with the Galatasaray fans. We did a very good job today.”
The first leg demonstrated Galatasaray’s ability to frustrate Liverpool’s attacking threats while capitalising on key moments in transition. The Turkish champions executed a disciplined tactical plan that limited opportunities for the visitors and allowed them to control important phases of the game.

However, the return leg at Anfield is expected to present a different challenge. Liverpool will look to overturn the deficit on home soil, while Galatasaray are likely to rely on defensive organisation and quick counter-attacks led by Osimhen.
With the tie still finely balanced, the Nigerian striker’s confidence suggests the Turkish side will approach the decisive match not simply to defend their lead, but with the belief that they can deliver another damaging performance against the Premier League club.
