Galatasaray’s attacking line will come under intense focus on Tuesday as Victor Osimhen prepares to lead the line against Liverpool. The Nigerian striker heads into the encounter under the shadow of a possible suspension, with just one yellow card separating him from missing the crucial return leg at Anfield.
So far this season, Osimhen has already received two cautions in the UEFA Champions League, picking up bookings against Juventus and Atletico Madrid. Under UEFA regulations, a third yellow card results in an automatic one-match suspension. Further bans are then applied after every odd-numbered caution, meaning the striker must tread carefully if he is to remain available for Galatasaray’s European campaign.
Osimhen has been a cornerstone of Galatasaray’s run in Europe this season. His seven Champions League goals make him one of the club’s most influential players on the continental stage. He is also on the verge of a historic milestone – just one goal away from equalling Burak Yılmaz’s record of eight goals in a single Champions League season for Galatasaray, set during the 2012–13 campaign. Matching that feat would further cement his status among the club’s most prolific forwards in European competition.

The striker has already made a decisive impact against Liverpool this season. During the group stage of the current Champions League campaign, Osimhen scored the only goal as Galatasaray secured a 1–0 victory over the English side, underlining his ability to deliver in high-stakes European fixtures.
Osimhen’s previous experience at Liverpool’s Anfield adds another layer to the narrative. In 2022, he featured there with Napoli in a 2–0 defeat, but earlier in that same campaign he played a role in Napoli’s emphatic 4–1 victory over the Reds, even winning a decisive penalty. Those encounters could provide valuable insight as he prepares to face Liverpool once again on one of Europe’s biggest stages.

For Galatasaray, Osimhen’s availability is crucial. Losing him for the return leg would be a major blow to their hopes of progressing in the competition. His movement, finishing ability, and knack for creating opportunities for teammates have been central to the team’s success in Europe this season.
The first-leg clash at Rams Park will be officiated by Spanish referee Jesús Gil Manzano. Osimhen’s performance could prove decisive – not only in determining the outcome of the first leg but also in shaping Galatasaray’s chances ahead of the pivotal return fixture at Anfield.
