Nigeria’s Kanyinsola Ajayi delivered a historic performance at the SEC Indoor Championships, storming to victory in the men’s 60m with a blistering 6.45 seconds.

The electrifying run saw Ajayi set a new Nigerian national record, breaking the long-standing 6.48s mark established in 1999 by Deji Aliu. His time also equalled the African record set by Leonard Myles-Mills, a mark that has stood for over two decades.

As if that were not enough, Ajayi’s 6.45s performance matched the NCAA record previously set by American sprint star Christian Coleman, placing the Nigerian at the very summit of collegiate sprint history.

Ajayi powered away from the field to secure the win ahead of Jelani Watkins, who clocked 6.53 seconds for second place. Fellow Nigerian and teammate Israel Okon completed the podium with a bronze-medal finish in 6.54 seconds.

The landmark run means Ajayi not only etched his name into Nigeria’s record books but also stepped firmly onto the continental and NCAA stage, announcing himself as one of the fastest men in the world over 60 meters.
