‎Leicester City have strengthened their midfield options for the rest of the campaign by bringing in Nigerian international Joe Aribo on a temporary deal.

‎Aribo’s arrival brings valuable top-flight and second-tier experience to the King Power Stadium. The midfielder has previously featured prominently in both the Premier League and the Sky Bet Championship, in addition to enjoying a successful spell north of the border with Rangers.

‎Now 29, Aribo joins Leicester after spending four seasons at Southampton, where he made a total of 111 appearances across league competitions. His time with the Saints saw him compete regularly at the highest level of English football as well as in the Championship.

Reacting to the move he said, “For me, it’s amazing to have got it done and I just can’t wait to get going. I’ve always known the squad is good. I’m so certain [about] where we can get to and what we can do together. It’s just good to be a part of it.”

‎Aribo was born in Camberwell, England, and began his senior career in non-league football with Staines Town in 2014. He featured consistently in the Isthmian League before his performances earned him a transfer to Charlton Athletic in the summer of 2015.

His development caught the attention of Rangers, who secured his signature in 2019.

‎While in Glasgow, Aribo enjoyed a productive three-year spell, making 149 appearances in all competitions and scoring 26 goals. His time at Rangers included major silverware, highlighted by the club’s Scottish Premiership triumph in the 2020/21 season and a Scottish Cup victory in 2021/22. He also featured more than 40 times in European matches.

‎One of the standout moments of his club career came in 2022 when he found the net in the UEFA Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt, although Rangers ultimately lost the contest on penalties in Seville.

‎Internationally, Aribo has represented Nigeria on 34 occasions. He made his debut for the Super Eagles in a friendly match against Ukraine in August 2019 and was part of the Nigerian squad that finished second at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations held in Côte d’Ivoire.
