Crystal Palace have decided not to sign Nigerian International Chrisantus Uche on a permanent deal according to Diario AS Journalist Eduardo Burgos Rodríguez.

The Eagles completed the signing of the Super Eagles midfielder on loan with an obligation to buy during the summer transfer window, but fresh reports indicate that they are not willing to exercise their obligation to buy the 22-year-old.

Since joining the club from Getafe, Uche has struggled to get consistent game time. He has only played 11 games this season and his first goal just came last week in a 3-0 Conference League victory over Shelbourne.

Uche is yet to start in the Premier League this season. Meanwhile the obligation to buy can only be triggered if he starts 10 league games. With his current situation, it is uncertain that can be achieved.

Uche’s lack of game time has also affected his place in the national team, as he was named in the provisional squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), but failed to make the final 28-man list, missing out on the chance to make his debut at the continental tournament.

Getafe are reportedly aware of Palace’s decision, but it is believed that the Eagles will not terminate the Nigerian’s loan under any circumstance. For now, the versatile midfielder could be an option for Oliver Glasner in case of injuries or the need to rotate.

Crystal Palace are currently struggling with the absence of some key players. Daniel Munoz and Cheick Doucouré are both injured while Ismaila Sarr is with Senegal for the AFCON. Due to this, Uche could get more game time in the coming weeks, but it is uncertain if he would be a starter in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, according to reports, the FA Cup holders will try to sign at least one striker and one full-back in January. This means more competition for Uche, making his return to Spain next summer likely.

Nonetheless, if Uche impresses in the coming games, there is the possibility for the Eagles to change their stance, or for another club to enter the bidding to sign the Nigerian international on a permanent deal.
