Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has been shortlisted for the CAF Goalkeeper of the Year (Men) award following an impressive year between the posts for both Nigeria and Chippa United, Bold Sports reports.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the nominees on Wednesday ahead of the 2025 CAF Awards ceremony, set to take place in Marrakech, Morocco, for the third year running.

Nwabali’s nomination caps a remarkable rise for the 29-year-old, who has evolved into one of Africa’s most dependable goalkeepers. Known for his calm presence and sharp reflexes, the Super Eagles shot-stopper has developed a reputation for saving penalties and producing clutch performances in crucial moments.

He was instrumental for Nigeria during their international games this year including the Unity Cup in London, which the Super Eagles won, and the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, where he kept a clean sheet in the 4–0 victory over Benin Republic in Uyo to revive Nigeria’s qualification hopes.

Nwabali will face stiff competition from a list packed with elite goalkeepers, including André Onana (Cameroon), Yassine Bounou (Morocco), Edouard Mendy (Senegal), Ronwen Williams (South Africa), Ahmed El Shenawy (Egypt), Munir Mohamedi (Morocco), Aymen Dahmen (Tunisia), Vozinha (Cape Verde), and Marc Diouf (Senegal).

The nomination marks another milestone for Nwabali, who continues to prove his consistency on the continental stage and remains one of the Super Eagles’ most reliable figures.
