Flying Eagles captain Daniel Bameyi has been shortlisted for the CAF Young Player of the Year (Men) award, following an impressive year representing Nigeria across multiple international tournaments, Bold Sports reports.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) unveiled the list of nominees on Wednesday for the 2025 CAF Awards, scheduled to hold in Marrakech, Morocco, marking the third consecutive year the North African city will host African football’s most prestigious awards night.
Bameyi’s inclusion crowns a year of consistency and leadership for the Nigerian U-20 side. Despite the Flying Eagles falling short of silverware, the defender’s influence on and off the pitch has been widely praised.

He captained the team to a bronze medal at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) where he was also named in the Team of the Tournament, before guiding Nigeria to the U-20 World Cup in Chile, where they bowed out to Argentina in the Round of 16.
Earlier in the year, he also featured prominently in the WAFU B U-20 Championship, leading Nigeria to the final before losing to Ivory Coast.
The CAF Young Player of the Year category also features several emerging talents across the continent, including Asharaf Tapsoba (Burkina Faso), Alynho Haïdara (Ivory Coast), Noah Sadiki (DR Congo), Abdellah Ouazane (Morocco), Houssam Essadak (Morocco), Othmane Maamma (Morocco), Momoh Kamara (Sierra Leone), and South African duo Mbekezile Mboikazi and Tylon Smith.
