Flying Eagles midfielder Daniel Daga says the team remain confident of securing victory when they face Saudi Arabia in their second Group F game at the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup on Friday, Bold Sports reports.
Nigeria opened their campaign with a 1-0 defeat to Norway after Rasmus Holten converted an early penalty, leaving the team bottom of the group. With Saudi Arabia also losing their opener 1-0 to Colombia, both sides are desperate for a result to keep their qualification hopes alive.
Daga, who plays his club football with Molde in Norway, insists the Flying Eagles’ performance in the first game proves they are capable of turning things around.
“I’m confident because we lost our game against Norway that we deserved to win. I know Saudi Arabia lost their game too. It’s football, anything can happen so we are hundred percent prepared and confident to go out there and get the three points,” he said.

The midfielder also addressed Nigerian supporters, acknowledging their disappointment but urging them to stay behind the team.
“I know Nigerians are disappointed for the first game but if they watched, they will know we deserved to win. I hope they are patient, support us, pray for us and we’ll do our best to make our country proud tomorrow.”
Nigeria have a perfect record against Saudi Arabia at the U-20 World Cup, winning 2-1 in 1989 and 2-0 in 2011. The Flying Eagles will be hoping that history repeats itself when they meet at the Estadio Fiscal in Talca at 12:00am Nigerian time.
