Flying Eagles head coach Aliyu Zubairu has named a 21-man squad for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, as Nigeria set their sights on a first-ever triumph at the global tournament, Bold Sports reports.

The team, who departed Nigeria on Sunday, will undergo a 12-day training camp in Chile before opening their Group F campaign against Norway on September 29 at the Estadio Fiscal in Talca. The Flying Eagles will then face Saudi Arabia on October 2 and round off the group stage against Colombia on October 5.

Zubairu’s final list features a blend of home-based talents and Europe-based professionals, including Manchester City forward Abdullahi Shitu Ele, Royal Antwerp’s Achichi Oseer, and Daniel Daga of Norwegian side Molde. Captain Daniel Bameyi and promising goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt are also part of the squad.

The Flying Eagles, seven-time African champions, have twice finished runners-up at the U-20 World Cup — in 1989 and 2005. Zubairu is now tasked with going one better after recent disappointments, including a bronze medal finish at the WAFU B U-20 Championship and a silver medal finish at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup will be staged from September 27 to October 19 across four Chilean cities: Santiago, Rancagua, Valparaiso, and Talca. Nigeria will compete alongside South Africa, Morocco, and Egypt as Africa’s representatives at the tournament.
