Rangers head coach Russell Martin has delivered a positive update on Cyriel Dessers after initial fears that the striker had suffered a serious injury, Bold Sports reports.
Dessers was forced off during the 2-1 loss to Viktoria Plzen in the Champions League third qualifying round second leg on Tuesday, sparking concerns over a potential knee problem. However, speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Rangers’ Cup tie against Alloa Athletic, Martin confirmed the situation is not as bad as initially feared.
“Cyriel’s injury is not as bad as first feared. The cup game will be too early, but we’re really hopeful he can be involved on Tuesday,” he said. “Everyone feared the worst the way he went off (in midweek), but it was a small issue and nowhere near as big as it could have been.”

“He’s a bit sore and stiff still, but everyone has worked really hard to give him the chance to be fit for Tuesday.”
League One side Alloa Athletic are the visitors to Ibrox on Saturday, with the Gers aiming to begin another memorable journey in a competition they have won a record 28 times.
Martin, however, admitted he will need to carefully manage his squad during the hectic schedule. “It’s a game we want to win but also a game we need to balance. We had five games in 14 days,” he explained.
“Some of the guys played a lot of minutes, so it’s a chance for some people to get on the pitch. But we’ll put a team out that we think can win the game and want to win the game. I’m looking forward to seeing some of those guys on the pitch.”
