D’Tigress forward Amy Okonkwo has been named the Most Valuable Player of the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket after leading Nigeria to a historic fifth consecutive title in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

Okonkwo delivered an outstanding performance in the final, recording 19 points, nine rebounds, and three assists to help secure Nigeria’s latest triumph, beating Mali 78-64.

The award marks a historic achievement for Okonkwo, who becomes only the second Nigerian to win back-to-back MVP honors at the Women’s Afrobasket, following Mfon Udoka, who claimed the title in 2003 and 2005 during Nigeria’s first two championship wins.

Her performance was instrumental in Nigeria finishing as the highest-scoring team in the tournament.

Beyond her brilliance, Okonkwo has also been a unifying presence in the squad, inspiring confidence and cohesion among her teammates on and off the court.
