Wilfred Ndidi has shared his thoughts ahead of the Super Eagles’ International friendly clash with Portugal, stating that it would be a good test for the team.
The three-time African champions will face off against the Seleção at Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa, Leiria on Wednesday night, looking to continue their impressive form.
Since the International break began, Nigeria have played three games, defeating Zimbabwe 2-0 and Jamaica 3-0 to retain the Unity Cup title in London. A late strike denied the team another victory against Poland in a thrilling 2-2 draw in Warszawa.

However, the Super Eagles’ biggest test is set to come against a Portugal side preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The last time both teams faced, Portugal thrashed Nigeria 4-0 in a friendly game before the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
“It would be a very good test for us. We faced the first test against Poland. Portugal is a great team, a massive team, with big players as well. So it would be a massive test for us as a group,” Ndidi said in his pre-match press conference ahead of the game.
The Super Eagles captain spoke on head coach Eric Chelle and the positive atmosphere he has brought to the Super Eagles camp.
“I think he’s a great manager, an amazing guy. The way he brings the team together is really good. Everyone is so happy having him around.”

Ndidi also shared his thoughts on missing out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting that the team has to pick themselves up and look to the future.
“Missing out on the World Cup is really sad. But aim is not just to beat ourselves on what we’ve missed, but to look forward to a bright future and what we can achieve together as a team.”
“The coach has brought in a great philosophy. You see the way we performed at the AFCON, we couldn’t win but it was exciting. This is a positive step, and the mindset is positive going forward.”
“We’re looking forward to every training, game by game. We’re not perfect, but we’re getting to improve everyday.”
