Nigeria battled to a 2-2 draw against Poland in an international friendly at the PGE Narodowy in Warsaw on Wednesday night. Terem Moffi opened the scoring for the Super Eagles before Paul Onuachu restored Nigeria’s lead from the penalty spot. However, Poland struck deep into stoppage time through Przemysław Wiśniewski to deny Eric Chelle’s side victory.
Moffi entered the match in encouraging form after returning to the national team setup following a productive club campaign. Onuachu also arrived with confidence, having scored 22 league goals for Trabzonspor this season. Their contributions highlighted the attacking quality available to Chelle despite the absence of Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman.
Nigeria looked sharp from the opening whistle and took the lead in the 23rd minute. Moffi finished a well-worked move from Moses Simon to put the visitors ahead and reward their positive start. The goal exposed Poland’s defensive issues and gave the Super Eagles control of the contest.
Poland responded before the break and eventually found an equaliser through Kacper Potulski. The hosts increased their pressure as Robert Lewandowski and Piotr Zieliński pushed forward in search of a turnaround.

Nigeria regained the advantage in the 77th minute when Onuachu converted a penalty. The spot kick followed a handball decision after a VAR review, and the experienced striker made no mistake from 12 yards.
The goal appeared set to hand Nigeria an impressive away victory. Chelle’s side remained organised and limited Poland’s opportunities for much of the closing stages. The performance continued the confidence built during Nigeria’s recent Unity Cup success.
Just as Nigeria seemed ready to celebrate, Poland produced a dramatic response. Wiśniewski scored in the fifth minute of stoppage time with a superb strike that rescued a 2-2 draw for the home side. The late goal sparked celebrations among the Polish supporters and denied the Super Eagles a notable result in Warsaw.
While the draw will leave Nigeria frustrated, there were several positives. Moffi’s return brought an attacking spark, while Onuachu continued his strong scoring form. The Super Eagles also showed resilience against experienced opposition despite missing some of their biggest stars.
Chelle’s team will now shift focus to their upcoming friendly against Portugal as preparations continue for future international competitions. The performance against Poland offered valuable lessons and further evidence of the squad’s depth.
