‎Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw believes his side did enough to score more than once despite edging past Mali in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final encounter.

‎Senegal booked their place in the semi-finals with a 1-0 victory at the Grand Stade de Tanger on Friday, navigating a tense contest against a resilient Malian team.

‎Speaking after the game, Thiaw admitted his team faced stiff opposition but felt Senegal could have been more ruthless in front of goal.

“It was not an easy match because we played against a very talented Mali team, but we achieved our objective. The Mali team has good qualities and they created many challenges for us,” Thiaw told CAF Media.

“If we had been more clinical in front of goal, we could have scored more goals but what is more important today is for us to have qualified for the semi-final. We will look into our errors and look to correct them for our future matches.”

‎Thiaw added: “We hope that we will be more efficient in front of goal and have more luck in the future.”

‎Senegal will now turn their attention to the semi-finals as they continue their quest to win the AFCON title.
