Raphael Onyedika will undergo a scan today (Thursday) after suffering a hamstring injury in Club Brugge’s midweek clash with Westerlo, with the Super Eagles midfielder’s availability for upcoming fixtures hanging in the balance.
The 24-year-old was forced off after just 15 minutes of Wednesday’s match, and early signs suggest the injury could be serious enough to rule him out of Saturday’s Belgian Pro League trip to Standard Liège and next Tuesday’s UEFA Champions League tie away to Atalanta according to Het Nieuwsblad.
The encounter in Bergamo is a repeat of last season’s playoff, when Brugge defeated the Italian side home and away to secure passage to the round of 16 before they were eliminated by Premier League side Aston Villa.

Onyedika’s setback compounds fitness concerns for head coach Nicky Hayen, who also saw defender Brandon Mechele substituted with a knee problem. While Mechele’s issue is not considered major, his availability this weekend remains in doubt.
The Nigerian midfielder’s injury adds to a growing list of Super Eagles players struggling with fitness across Europe. Victor Osimhen is only just returning from an ankle sprain, Wilfred Ndidi featured on Wednesday after recovering from a thigh strain, while Lazio’s Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Nottingham Forest’s Ola Aina are both out with thigh and hamstring problems respectively.
For Club Brugge, the timing is delicate as they prepare for a crucial run of matches domestically and in Europe, with Hayen hoping Onyedika’s scan results deliver better news than the initial outlook.
