Nigeria international Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has been ruled out of action after Lazio confirmed he sustained a lesion to the femoral bicep in his right leg.

The 23-year-old midfielder picked up the injury during Sunday’s fiery Derby della Capitale clash against Roma, which Lazio lost 1-0. He was forced off in the first half, leaving coach Igor Tudor to reshuffle his side in the high-stakes encounter.

A statement from the club’s medical staff on Wednesday, confirmed the diagnosis but did not specify the severity of the lesion or how long Dele-Bashiru will be sidelined.

The setback comes at a crucial time for the former Sheffield Wednesday man, who has been steadily growing into his role since joining Lazio last summer. His energy and ball-carrying ability have made him an important option in midfield, and his absence will be felt as the Aquile battle for consistency in Serie A.

While Nicolò Rovella, another injury concern from the derby, avoided surgery for a recurring groin issue and has already started rehabilitation, Lazio now face a nervous wait to learn the recovery timeline for Dele-Bashiru.

The club also confirmed that Samuel Gigot, Manuel Lazzari, and Matias Vecino remain in rehabilitation as they continue their own recovery programs.

For Dele-Bashiru, the focus will now be on making a swift return to action, with Nigeria fans also watching closely as the midfielder looks to maintain his upward trajectory at both club and international level.
