Canada midfielder Ismael Kone has expressed his gratitude to supporters and team-mates after undergoing surgery on the broken leg he suffered during Canada’s emphatic 6-0 victory over Qatar in the FIFA World Cup.
The 24-year-old has been an important figure for Canada in recent matches. Kone featured in the dominant win over Qatar before his injury and continues to play a key role in the squad’s World Cup campaign. His performances in midfield have helped Canada build momentum as the tournament progresses.
The injury occurred late in Thursday’s Group B encounter when Kone challenged for possession and was caught by Qatar midfielder Assim Madibo. The challenge left players from both teams visibly concerned as medical staff rushed onto the pitch.
Treatment lasted several minutes before Kone was placed on a stretcher. Despite the painful setback, the midfielder managed to acknowledge supporters by waving to the crowd as he left the field.

Kone, who plays for Canada men’s national soccer team and club side US Sassuolo Calcio, later confirmed that surgery had been completed successfully.
In a message shared on Instagram, Kone thanked everyone who had reached out following the injury.
”Your love and support has been felt, honestly thank you so much. You can’t even imagine how grateful I am to everyone who reached out and that has me in their prayers.”
He also praised the bond within the Canadian squad.
”I wanted you to know that I love you guys from the bottom of my heart and our brotherhood is everything to me.
”What you guys did yesterday will stay with me forever. I’ll be back very soon and we’ll keep making more memories together.”
Canada will now turn their attention to their final Group B match against Switzerland on 24 June. While Kone begins his recovery, his absence will be a significant loss for the co-hosts as they aim to finish the group stage strongly.
