NBA star Josh Okogie has joined the D’Tigers preparation camp in Abuja ahead of the 2025 FIBA Afrobasket, scheduled to take place in Angola from August 12 to 24.
Josh Okogie’s arrival is expected to be a major morale booster for the squad already in camp, bringing with him a wealth of experience, having previously represented Nigeria at the 2019 FIBA World Cup and the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The newly signed Houston Rockets guard is making his return to the national team for the first time since the 2023 FIBA World Cup African Qualifiers, where he posted impressive averages of 16.0 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, with an efficiency rating of 18.0.
The 26-year-old confirmed his arrival via an Instagram story captioned simply: “Nigeria.”

Okogie joined the Houston Rockets during the offseason after being waived by the Charlotte Hornets. He joins former D’Tigers player, Ime Udoka, who is the current coach of the Rockets.
Nigeria has been drawn in Group B alongside defending champions Tunisia, Madagascar, and Cameroon. The D’Tigers will open their campaign against Madagascar on August 13, followed by fixtures against Tunisia on August 15 and Cameroon on August 17.
The group winners will secure automatic qualification to the quarterfinals, while the second- and third-placed teams will battle for a spot through the qualification round.
