…Ajagba maintains No. 3 spot in WBC, IBF rankings

Nigerian heavyweight boxer Efe Ajagba has moved up one spot in the latest Ring Magazine rankings, following his impressive performance against Martin Bakole earlier this month.

Prior to their May 3rd bout in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Ajagba was ranked No. 10 by Ring Magazine, while Bakole held the No. 6 spot.

Despite the judges declaring the fight a Majority Draw—a decision many fans and analysts contested—Ajagba’s display was widely praised, and it appears to have boosted his standing. He is now ranked No. 9, with Fabio Wardley (18-0-1) entering the top 10.

Bakole, on the other hand, dropped two spots to No. 8. The DR Congo fighter had failed to record two wins in a row. He was knocked out in round 2 of his impromptu fight with New Zealander Joseph Parker. He stepped in on 48 hours’ notice in February as a late replacement for Daniel Dubois, who was originally scheduled to face Joseph Parker but withdrew due to illness.

Once considered a feared figure in the heavyweight division, Bakole’s recent draw and prior loss have significantly impacted his ranking.

Oleksandr Usyk currently holds the heavyweight championship according to Ring Magazine, while Tyson Fury remains the No. 1 contender. Meanwhile, IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois continues to hold his title.

Ajagba also retained his No. 3 position in both the WBC and IBF rankings, underscoring his growing reputation in the global heavyweight scene.
