German goalkeeper Marc ter Stegen has described Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare as a special player for Ajax, praising the forward’s energy and stating that he deserves the recognition he is receiving for his impressive performances.

Both players have made positive impressions since joining Ajax on loan during the summer transfer window, with ter Stegen arriving from La Liga champions Barcelona, while Arokodare completed his move from English Championship side Wolves.

Arokodare has particularly impressed in front of goal, recording 10 goals and three assists in 15 appearances across all competitions since his arrival. The 25-year-old is also enjoying a three-game goalscoring streak as he continues to establish himself as an important figure in the Dutch side’s attack.

Speaking exclusively to Cali Sports after Arokodare’s latest goal against AZ Alkmaar on Saturday, ter Stegen highlighted the Nigerian’s influence beyond his goalscoring contributions, noting that his energy is an important asset to both the team and the coach.

“Tolu is special for us. Not only because he’s scoring, I think we need his energy, the coach needs his energy even more. He’s asking for it a lot,” the German goalkeeper said.

Ter Stegen expressed his delight at the striker’s progress, believing that his positive attitude and commitment have contributed to the success he is currently enjoying.

“I’m pleased of how things are going for Tolu, I think he deserves all of that. It’s something that you attract, with good energy, I think it’s something that life always gives you back,” he added.

The goalkeeper also expressed hope that Arokodare would maintain his goalscoring form, acknowledging the benefits his continued contributions would bring to the team.

“I hope he keeps on scoring, that would be good for me and good for everyone,” ter Stegen concluded.

Arokodare will look to extend his impressive run when Ajax travel to face Danish side Midtjylland in the Conference League on Thursday, November 5, as the Nigerian forward seeks to maintain his influence in the final third.
