Tolu Arokodare continued his impressive form by scoring the winning goal to help Ajax secure a 2-1 victory over Sparta Rotterdam in their Eredivisie clash on Sunday.
The Super Eagles forward, who netted his 100th career goal in Ajax’s Conference League victory over Atalanta, took his tally to nine goals and three assists in 14 matches across all competitions this season.
Arokodare’s contributions have proved crucial for the Dutch giants, who have now won three consecutive matches and suffered just one defeat in their last eight games.
Inspired by their recent form, Ajax started the game on the front foot and took the lead in the 22nd minute when Abdellah Ouazane showcased his quality once again. The 17-year-old Moroccan exchanged passes with Julian Brandt before curling a superb finish into the top corner to put the visitors ahead.

Despite Ajax’s dominance, Sparta Rotterdam drew level in the 43rd minute through veteran midfielder Jens Toornstra, who marked his 500th Eredivisie appearance with a well-placed header to make it 1-1.
However, Ajax restored their advantage just before half-time with a brilliant counter-attack led by Brandt. The German midfielder carried the ball from his own half into the opposition territory before setting up Arokodare, who calmly found the bottom corner to make it 2-1.

Arokodare’s strike proved decisive as Sparta Rotterdam failed to find an equaliser despite their efforts in the second half. The hosts created several opportunities but were thwarted by Ajax’s defence and goalkeeper Marc ter Stegen, who produced some brilliant saves to preserve his side’s lead and secure all three points.
The victory moves Ajax into second place in the Eredivisie standings with 21 points from 10 matches, three points behind league leaders Feyenoord, who have 24 points. Meanwhile, Sparta Rotterdam remain 14th with nine points.
Ajax will look to extend their winning streak when they face AZ Alkmaar in their next league fixture on Saturday, while Sparta Rotterdam will aim to return to winning ways when they take on Fortuna Sittard in the Dutch Cup on Wednesday.
