CAF delegation continues assessment in Nigeria
The meeting followed the delegation’s inspection of facilities and engagements with relevant agencies, institutions and stakeholders in Lagos. The team has also continued assessments in Abuja ahead of the General Assembly.
The 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly will take place on 21 November 2026, while Lagos will host the 2026 CAF Awards on 7 December.
During the meeting, Dikko discussed the importance of coordinated planning and collaboration among the institutions involved in organising both events.
He noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, approved Nigeria’s hosting initiative following engagements with CAF leadership on the sidelines of the Africa Forward Summit in Kenya.
Dikko highlights roles of Abuja and Lagos
The NSC chairman outlined the separate responsibilities of the two cities. Abuja will host the General Assembly, while Lagos will stage the CAF Awards.

Dikko also acknowledged the support of Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike in facilitating preparations for the Assembly in Abuja.
He further highlighted ongoing coordination with relevant government agencies, including the Nigeria Customs Service. The collaboration aims to facilitate the movement of international delegates and ensure efficient entry and exit procedures.
Sports infrastructure investment also discussed
Dikko expressed confidence in cooperation among the Federal Government, NSC, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), FCT Administration, Lagos State Government and CAF.
He also highlighted the wider opportunities associated with hosting the events, including showcasing Nigeria’s organisational capacity and strengthening its role in African football administration.
On sports development, the NSC chairman referenced plans to mobilise investment through a proposed Sports Infrastructure Development Bond. The initiative aims to support the upgrading of sporting facilities nationwide.
Nigeria’s preparations for the events align with the Federal Government’s ambition to harness sports for economic growth, investment, cultural advancement and international engagement under the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy (RHINSE).
