Lille head coach Davide Ancelotti has warned his team about Victor Osimhen’s threat ahead of their UEFA Champions League clash against Galatasaray on Wednesday night, October 21, 2026. The Italian coach believes Lille must work collectively to contain the Nigerian striker, Bold Sports reports.

Osimhen has scored six goals and provided three assists in seven appearances across all competitions this season. However, the Super Eagles forward has gone without a goal or assist in his last two matches against Barcelona and Gençlerbirliği. He will now aim to rediscover his scoring touch against Lille.

Ancelotti explains how Lille can stop Osimhen

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Ancelotti stressed the importance of a collective defensive effort. He insisted that Lille cannot rely on one player to neutralise the Galatasaray striker.

“We stop him as a team. It doesn’t depend on one player; it always depends on the team,” Ancelotti said, as quoted by Le Petit Lillois.

The Lille manager also praised Osimhen’s influence during his time at Napoli. The striker played a crucial role in their Serie A title-winning campaign in the 2022-23 season.

“He’s a player who, in Naples, almost single-handedly won the Scudetto.”

Ancelotti knows the danger Osimhen poses in the final third. He also recognises the quality throughout the Galatasaray squad.

“We know his potential, we know we always have to be vigilant when attacking and when defending,” he added.

“We know they’re a team with a lot of individual quality, with players who have a lot of experience in this competition, who know it well. We always have to be vigilant.”

Lille prepare for Galatasaray’s attacking threat

Ancelotti also highlighted the importance of defensive organisation and balance in possession. He believes Galatasaray’s ability to attack quickly could create problems if Lille leave spaces behind.

The Lille coach compared aspects of Galatasaray’s playing style to Real Betis. He warned his players to remain alert, particularly when dealing with opposition movement and counter-attacks.

“It will be a bit like Betis, who had somewhat similar characteristics. We always have to be vigilant, especially with our marking. In our attacking play, we need to be well-balanced, because they have players who play vertically and are dangerous on the counter-attack.”

Osimhen targets Champions League breakthrough

Osimhen previously played for Lille before establishing himself at Napoli and later joining Galatasaray. His experience in European football makes him a significant threat ahead of Wednesday’s encounter.

The Nigerian forward will also have a personal target. He will hope to score his first Champions League goal of the campaign and help Galatasaray secure a positive result.

Lille must therefore combine disciplined defending with effective attacking play. If they allow Osimhen space inside the penalty area, his movement and finishing could prove decisive.
