Nigeria’s D’Tigress have arrived in Berlin ahead of the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup, with captain and Portland Fire forward Amy Okonkwo rejoining the squad ahead of their opening game.
D’Tigress have spent the past month preparing for the tournament, with training camps in the United States, China and Spain before touching down in Germany.
Nigeria, drawn in Group B, begin their campaign against South Korea on Friday, September 4, at the Uber Arena. They face Hungary the following day before a blockbuster clash with France on Monday, September 7.
The group winner will advance directly to the quarter-finals, while the second- and third-placed teams will enter the third-round qualifying phase. D’Tigress will be targeting at least a top-three finish as they look to make another deep run on the world stage.

Okonkwo’s return is a major boost for the African champions. The captain had temporarily left camp in August to join the Portland Fire on a hardship contract for the remainder of the WNBA season.
D’Tigress made history at the 2018 World Cup in Spain by becoming the first African team to reach the knockout stage. Six years on, they will be aiming to go one step further and rewrite the record books again in Berlin.
