Nigerian winger Tunde Akinsola is on the verge of completing a permanent transfer to Belgian Pro League side Cercle Brugge from Portuguese club AVS Futebol SAD.
According to transfer expert Ben Jacobs, the 23-year-old has been granted permission to undergo his medical ahead of the move and is currently travelling to Belgium to complete the final stages of the transfer.
Akinsola attracted interest from several clubs following AVS Futebol’s relegation from the Liga Portugal at the end of the 2025/26 campaign, with English Championship side Blackburn Rovers also reportedly making a bid for his services.
However, Cercle Brugge are now set to win the race for the Nigerian, with the transfer expected to be officially announced in the coming hours.

Akinsola initially joined AVS on loan in January 2024 before making the move permanent in August of the same year after the club secured promotion to the Portuguese top flight. He enjoyed an impressive first full season, scoring five goals and providing one assist.
Despite AVS’ struggles in the 2025/26 campaign, Akinsola was one of the club’s standout performers. The winger registered one goal and four assists in 34 appearances, although his efforts could not prevent the team from finishing bottom of the Liga Portugal and suffering relegation.
His performances subsequently sparked interest from clubs looking to strengthen their attacking options, with Cercle Brugge now closing in on his signature.
The Belgian side have endured a difficult start to the new Pro League campaign themselves, sitting 13th in the table after two draws and two defeats from their opening four matches.
Cercle Brugge scored five goals across their first two games but have failed to find the net in their last two outings, highlighting the need for additional attacking options.
Akinsola’s arrival could provide a timely boost as the club search for their first victory of the season. The Nigerian, who can operate on either wing, will be hoping to make an immediate impact and establish himself in Belgian football.
Akinsola began his career with Nigerian side Valiant FC before moving abroad, with spells at Vasalunds IF and Real Valladolid preceding his time at AVS.
With his medical now imminent, Akinsola is expected to complete his move to Cercle Brugge shortly and begin a new chapter in his career in Belgium.
