Ademola Lookman has reacted to his first Atlético Madrid goal of the season. The Nigeria international scored in Saturday’s 3-1 LaLiga win over Sevilla.

‎Lookman entered the game without a league goal this season. He had also started Atlético’s opening matches in a central role. Against Sevilla, Diego Simeone moved him back to the left wing. The change quickly paid off.

‎Lookman doubled Atlético’s lead in the 26th minute. Pablo Barrios supplied the assist. The Nigerian then finished calmly inside the penalty area.

‎His goal came during a dominant first half. Álex Baena had opened the scoring earlier. Baena later added his second before the break.

‎After the final whistle, Lookman praised Atlético’s overall performance.

‎“I’m very happy with the three points, of course,” Lookman said. “We played very well today. We were very sharp in the right moments. So, yeah, three points, on to the next game.”

‎The forward also discussed his personal goal. However, he made the team’s victory his main focus.

‎“Good to get off the mark, Of course. I’m happy to win and that’s the most important thing. But also playing together as a team today in those moments were great. Yeah, I’m happy.

‎“Obviously, top players, interlinking together, playing with the same mindset, of course. Happy to play with the guys.”

‎Lookman also reflected on Atlético’s approach against strong opposition.

‎The 28-year-old played 66 minutes at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán. He scored with his only shot on target. He also completed 25 of 32 passes.

‎The result moved Simeone’s team to seven points after three league matches.

‎Lookman believes Atlético must maintain their preparation. He also stressed the need for continued improvement.

‎“Big games against big teams. Prepare the same way that we’ve been preparing together with outer targets, with our intentions. And yeah, keep going like this, improve.”

‎The victory gives Lookman an important confidence boost. His first league goal also came after a difficult start in a different attacking position.

‎Atlético Madrid will return to LaLiga action against Athletic Bilbao on September 5. Lookman will hope to build on his Sevilla performance and add more goals to his tally.
