Shooting Stars began their 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign on a winning note, defeating newly promoted Inter Lagos 2-1 at the Lekan Salami Stadium on Friday.
Two first half goals from Lucky Emmanuel and Sodiq Ibrahim were enough for the Oluyole Warriors to secure victory, giving them a positive start to the new season.
After a cagey opening, Shooting Stars opened the scoring in the 15th minute through Lucky Emmanuel who showed quality in the box to find the net with a powerful shot, giving the hosts the lead.
Just seven minutes later, Inter Lagos leveled the scoreline as Damilare Adigun scored with a composed finish from close range, making it 1-1.

On the cusp of halftime, Shooting Stars regained their lead after they were awarded a penalty. Sodiq Ibrahim stepped up and confidently dispatched the spot kick, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to make it 2-1.
The goal gave the hosts a slender advantage going into the break, and it was one that was deserved as they put in an impressive shift during the first half.
The second half began with Shooting Stars pushing for a second goal. However, Inter Lagos defended resiliently to prevent the hosts from extending their advantage. The away side also came close to equalising a couple of times, but they were unable to take advantage of their chances.
In the 90th minute, Shooting Stars were awarded another penalty, giving them a huge opportunity to seal the victory. This time, the hosts missed as the effort from the spot hit the woodwork. Despite the missed penalty, the Oluyole Warriors held on to claim all three points.
The victory marks a strong start to the season for Shooting Stars, who will be looking to improve on last season’s third-place finish. For Inter Lagos, the newcomers will draw the positives, but they will be aiming to secure victory in their next game.
