Charlton Athletic have completed the signing of Super Eagles goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo on a season-long loan from Wrexham, Bold Sports reports.

The Championship club confirmed the move on Thursday, announcing the 24-year-old as the latest addition to their squad for the 2026/27 campaign.

“We’re delighted to announce the signing of Nigeria international Arthur Okonkwo on a season-long loan from Wrexham,” Charlton wrote on their social media platforms.

Okonkwo initially joined Wrexham on loan before making the move permanent in June 2024. He played a key role in the club’s remarkable rise, helping them secure back-to-back promotions to the Championship.

The goalkeeper has made 121 appearances for Wrexham across three seasons with the club, keeping 46 clean sheets. His performances earned him a place in the 2023/24 EFL League Two Team of the Season.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson believes the temporary switch will provide Okonkwo with another opportunity to continue his development.

“This loan is a good opportunity for Arthur to go and continue his development down at Charlton,” Parkinson said.

“He’s another player who’s played a significant role for us over the last few years, and we’ll be watching his progress closely,” he added.

Charlton head coach Nathan Jones also welcomed the arrival of the Nigerian goalkeeper, highlighting his quality and experience.

“Arthur showed a real desire to come to us after our initial meeting, which was important for us. He’s an excellent shot stopper, of good pedigree, with good experience and the teams he’s played in have done well, so I’m looking forward to working with him,” Jones said.

Okonkwo represented England at youth level from Under-16 to Under-18 before switching his international allegiance to Nigeria in April 2026.

He subsequently made his Super Eagles debut against Zimbabwe in the 2026 Unity Cup at The Valley, the same stadium that will now be his home for the 2026/27 season.
