Nigerian striker David Ankeye has completed a permanent move from Italian club Genoa to Serbian SuperLiga side FK Železničar Pančevo, ending his two-and-a-half-year stay with the Serie A outfit, Boldsports report.

‎The 24-year-old signed a three-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2029, with the Serbian side confirming a transfer fee of €500,000.

‎Ankeye arrives in Serbia after spending last season on loan at Krasava ENY Ypsonas FC. Before that spell, he also featured on loan for Rapid București and Virtus Entella as he searched for regular first-team football. Since joining Genoa from Sheriff Tiraspol in January 2024, the Nigerian made 11 senior appearances, including 10 matches in Serie A, but found playing opportunities limited.

‎The move offers the former Sheriff striker another chance to establish himself in European football with consistent playing time.

‎Speaking after completing the transfer, Ankeye expressed his excitement about joining his new club.

‎”I am happy to be here. I can’t wait to meet you and I’m ready to give my best for this team and this crest. I want to be the best version of myself in this club, to help the team progress and through that to take the next step in my career.”

‎The versatile forward also highlighted the qualities he hopes to bring to FK Železničar Pančevo.

‎”I would describe myself as a fast player, aggressive on the field and as a striker who scores goals. My favorite player is Samuel Eto’o.”

‎Before moving to Italy, Ankeye impressed at Sheriff Tiraspol, where he featured in European competition and earned his transfer to Genoa. Earlier in his career, he developed at Sidos FC.

‎The striker revealed that Serbia is familiar territory. He previously spent several weeks with Red Star Belgrade as an 18-year-old before choosing to continue his development in Sweden with Hammarby.

‎David is the Railwaymen’s fourth signing this summer after Billy G, Nemanja Zaric and Mamane Amadou Sabo.

‎Ankeye now has the opportunity to revive his career with regular football in Serbia after limited chances at Genoa. The Nigerian forward will hope his pace, versatility, and eye for goal help FK Železničar Pančevo achieve their ambitions while taking another important step in his European journey.
