Morocco secured their first win of the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Scotland in their Group C clash at Boston Stadium on Saturday.

A very early goal from Ismael Saibari was enough for the Atlas Lions to claim all three crucial points, taking them top of Group C with four points.

Morocco came into the game high in confidence after a 1-1 draw with one of the tournament favorites, Brazil. Meanwhile, Scotland secured a 1-0 victory over Haiti in their opening match.

Saibari opened the scoring against Scotland with the fastest goal of the 2026 World Cup so far, finding the net just 71 seconds in to give the North African side a vital lead.

It marked the forward’s second goal of the tournament after he also scored Morocco’s only goal in their draw with Brazil.

Mohamed Ouahbi’s side pushed to extend their advantage before halftime, however, they were unable to convert their chances, keeping the score line intact. Few minutes into the second half, Scotland felt they should have had a penalty for a foul on John McGinn, but play was waved on.

In the 82nd minute, there was another penalty claim as Scott McTominay ended up on the deck after a challenge from Neil El Aynaoui. However, play continued with no spot-kick awarded.

Scotland continued to push for an equaliser, but they were unable to register a shot on target. Meanwhile, Morocco came close to doubling their lead in the dying minutes, but they also could not capitalise.

Nonetheless, the Atlas Lions did just enough to claim all three points, taking them one step closer to the knockout stage.
