Nigeria captain Wilfred Ndidi has reflected on the Super Eagles’ 2-2 international friendly draw against Poland, admitting that the team controlled large periods of the contest despite conceding a late equaliser in Warsaw.
The Besiktas midfielder returned to the starting lineup after missing Nigeria’s recent Unity Cup matches in London. Ndidi’s comeback carried added significance as he became the only player in the starting XI who also featured when Nigeria defeated Poland 1-0 in 2018. He completed the full match and helped the Super Eagles extend their unbeaten run under head coach Eric Chelle.
Nigeria twice moved ahead during the encounter but could not secure victory after Poland struck in the closing stages.
Speaking after the match via Ubuntu pitch, Ndidi praised the team’s overall display while highlighting the contrast between both halves.
”It was a good game, it was a brilliant, We dominated the game. First half was an amazing game and second half we tried to sit back a bit, to defend a bit and then press. Entirely, it was a good game.”

”We always try as much as possible to get a win in every game. With our philosophy, with our vision and most importantly is to try and give a good game, try to be at our best and try to see if we win the game.”
Nigeria made a bright start and earned the breakthrough in the 23rd minute. Simon delivered a dangerous low cross, and Terem Moffi finished from close range.
Maduka Okoye produced several important saves before halftime.
Poland levelled deep into first-half stoppage time when Kacper Potulski capitalised on a defensive mistake following a corner.
Chelle introduced several fresh players after the break. Nigeria regained momentum and continued to threaten.
Their second goal arrived in the 80th minute after VAR detected a handball inside the penalty area. Paul Onuachu stepped up and converted the resulting penalty.
Okoye then made two outstanding saves to preserve the lead. However, Poland rescued a draw through Przemyslaw Wisniewski’s powerful long-range strike late in the game.
