Chiamaka Nnadozie will be aiming to finish her impressive debut season at Brighton with a personal achievement, as she eyes the Women Super League (WSL) golden glove.
The Super Falcons shot stopper has kept six clean sheets in 18 league matches, making her one of several contenders for the award, which is given to the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets.
However, she’s currently behind Manchester City’s Ayaka Yamashita, Chelsea’s Hannah Hampton, and Manchester United’s Phallon Tullis-Joyce, who have all kept seven clean sheets.
Brighton have two matches left in their league campaign, both at home. They face Arsenal on Wednesday evening before concluding the season against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, May 16.
This means Chiamaka Nnadozie must keep clean sheets in both games to have a chance of making history. It would make her the first African goalkeeper to win the award.
Beyond clean sheets, Nnadozie’s underlying numbers highlight her consistency and quality. She boasts the best save percentage in the league with 74.4%. She also ranks second in goals prevented with a remarkable 3.50, and is third for saves per 90 minutes with 3.20.
Asides from personal milestones, Nnadozie will also be aiming for her first trophy with Brighton. The Seagulls face Liverpool in the semifinal of the Women’s FA Cup on Sunday at BrewDog Stadium.
