FC Porto manager Francesco Farioli has downplayed the controversy surrounding Zaidu Sanusi following a debated moment in their recent league outing.
The incident, involving Gustavo Sá, sparked appeals for a penalty and a possible second booking for the Nigerian defender, who had already been cautioned earlier in the match. Despite the protests, the referee allowed play to continue, a call that has remained a talking point.
Speaking ahead of Porto’s Europa League quarterfinal clash with Nottingham Forest, Farioli offered a firm but brief assessment of the situation, making it clear he saw no wrongdoing.

“Yes, I saw it and for me it’s not a penalty. Nor a yellow card…”
Zaidu’s involvement comes with added attention given his disciplinary record this season, as another booking in Europe could affect his availability in the tie.
The fixture also presents an interesting individual contest, with the Porto full-back expected to line up against compatriot Ola Aina on the flank.
With tensions rising ahead of kickoff, Porto will be keen to keep focus on the task at hand rather than lingering refereeing debates.
