Liverpool FC have strongly condemned racist abuse directed at Ibrahima Konaté following their UEFA Champions League clash against Galatasaray.
The Premier League side recorded a convincing 4–0 victory at Anfield, sealing a 4–1 aggregate win to book their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
However, the game was marred by controversy involving Konaté, who was at the centre of several key moments. Early in the match, the French defender collided with Victor Osimhen, leaving the Nigerian forward in visible pain.
Osimhen attempted to continue but was clearly struggling and was eventually substituted at half-time due to the injury.
Konaté was also involved in other tense incidents during the match, including a confrontation involving Noa Lang, as well as a late clash near the goalmouth with Mauro Icardi.

Following the match, the defender became the target of racist abuse on social media, with some users posting offensive messages and discriminatory symbols.
Liverpool responded swiftly with a strong statement condemning the actions.
“Liverpool FC is appalled and disgusted by the vile and abhorrent racist abuse directed at Ibrahima Konaté on social media.”
The club reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on racism and confirmed that it is taking the matter seriously, including working with relevant authorities and urging social media platforms to take action against those responsible.
Despite a dominant performance and progression to the next round, the incident has once again highlighted the ongoing problem of racism in football, with calls for stronger measures to protect players from abuse.
