Ahead of Game 5 in the Eastern Conference Finals against the Boston Celtics on Friday at the TD Garden, the medical team of the Miami Heat will assess the severity of point guard Gabe Vincent’s ankle injury.
Despite leading the Eastern Conference finals 3-0, the Heat missed an opportunity to close out the series on Wednesday at the Kaseya Center, as the Celtics fought back and secured a 116-98 victory, forcing a Game 5. The Celtics are hoping to become the first team in the playoffs history to overturn a 3-0 deficit in their favor.
During the fourth quarter of the loss, Vincent, who has been impressive as the Heat’s starting guard in the playoffs, landed awkwardly on his leg, injuring his ankle. He received treatment and returned to the court approximately three minutes later.
In the Game 3 victory, Vincent led the Heat with 29 points, but in the subsequent loss, he contributed 17 points, four assists, and one rebound.

Heat Head Coach Erik Spoelstra acknowledged the need for caution regarding Vincent’s ankle and praised the resilience of the D’Tigers star for returning to the court after initial treatment.
“We’ll have to find out tomorrow. Whenever you ask these guys, they are like, ‘Yeah, I’m fine.’ So we’ll see,” Spoelstra commented. “I didn’t see the replay of it.”
“Gabe is as tough as they come. He just wanted to — he said, ‘Let me retape it.’ We have a lot of guys in the locker room like that,” Spoelstra added. “You know, all year long they have been putting themselves out there. So yeah, that’s why he has so much respect in the locker room.”
