Nigeria will take to the pitch without Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman for the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 third-place playoff against Egypt, with Paul Onuachu drafted in to lead the Super Eagles’ attack in a 4-3-3 formation.
Onuachu replaces Osimhen as the central striker, bringing a different attacking profile to the Nigerian frontline.
While Osimhen is known for his pace, pressing, and movement behind defences, Onuachu offers a more physical presence, aerial dominance, and hold-up play as Nigeria looks to occupy Egypt’s centre-backs and create chances from wide areas.
Moses Simon starts on the left flank, retaining his place after his previous outing, while Akor Adams comes in on the right wing.
Chukwueze’s inclusion means Ademola Lookman drops out of the starting line-up, as the coaching staff opts for Chukwueze’s direct dribbling and ability to cut inside from the right.
In midfield, Raphael Onyedika anchors the three-man unit, shielding the defence and dictating the tempo from deep. He is joined by Samuel Chukwueze, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, who provide energy, ball progression, and late runs into attacking areas.

The defensive line remains compact, with Bruno Onyemaechi and Bright Osayi-Samuel operating as full-backs, while Semi Ajayi partners Igoh Ogbu in central defence.
Stanley Nwabali continues in goal, keeping his place after solid performances earlier in the tournament.
Compared to the semi-final defeat to Morocco, the Super Eagles’ selection reflects enforced and tactical changes, particularly in attack, as Nigeria adjusts to life without Osimhen and Lookman and Frank onyeka, while targeting a strong finish in the tournament.
