Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has made notable changes to his starting line-up for Nigeria’s final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group-stage clash against Uganda, signalling a clear shift from the selections used in earlier matches against Tanzania and Tunisia.
Victor Osimhen once again leads the attack, this time supported by Moses Simon and Paul Onuachu, a combination that points to a more direct and physical approach. Onuachu’s presence offers aerial strength, while Simon provides pace and width, marking a contrast from the forward setups deployed in Nigeria’s previous outings.
In midfield, Samuel Chukwueze returns to the starting XI after missing the Tunisia match, joining Raphael Onyedika and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru. The selection replaces the Wilfred Ndidi-Frank Onyeka pairing, suggesting Chelle is rotating his midfield options to add attacking thrust and freshness against Uganda.
Defensively, Calvin Bassey retains his place but is now partnered by Igoh Ogbu, with Bruno Onyemaechi and Ryan Adebiosu named as full-backs. For Alebiosu, the start marks his international debut for Nigeria, adding another layer of intrigue to Chelle’s reshuffled backline..
The biggest surprise, however, comes in goal, where Francis Uzoho is handed a start ahead of Stanley Nwabali.
The decision appears to be a planned rotation rather than a reflection of form, as the Super Eagles look to manage fatigue, maintain competitiveness, and sustain momentum against a determined Ugandan side.
