Nigeria’s Super Eagles’ opening opponents at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Tanzania, have arrived in Morocco ahead of their AFCON campaign.
The Taifa Stars spent over a week in a training camp in Egypt as part of their preparations for the tournament. The East Africans will be hoping to make a strong start by pulling off an upset against Nigeria, who are widely regarded as one of the favourites to win the competition.
The meeting between the Super Eagles and the Taifa Stars will rekindle memories of their encounter in the opening match of the 1980 AFCON. Nigeria won that game 3–1, with goals from Muda Lawal, Ifeanyi Onyedika and legendary winger Segun Odegbami, before going on to lift the trophy.

Nigeria arrived in Morocco a day earlier and have already held their first training session in Fez on Friday morning as they seek to acclimatise to the weather conditions.
This will be Tanzania’s fourth appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations, but they are yet to record a win at the tournament. They will, however, be eager to break that jinx this time around.
The Taifa Stars will open their campaign against Nigeria on December 21, face East African neighbours Uganda on December 27, and conclude their group fixtures three days later against Tunisia.
