The Super Eagles players and coaching staff have departed Cairo and are scheduled to arrive in Fes, Morocco today as their preparations continue ahead of the 35th Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, Bold Sports reports.

The Super Eagles spent four days in camp in Cairo, where they took on the Pharaohs of Egypt in a pre-AFCON friendly that ended in a 2–1 defeat. Defender Chidozie Awaziem netted Nigeria’s only goal in the test encounter.

Several regular starters were rested for the friendly clash, with others arriving after the match as Paris FC winger Simon Moses, Fulham’s Samuel Chukwueze and Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen linked up with the squad on Wednesday.

The team is expected to continue their preparations in Fes, where they will play all their group matches against Tanzania, Tunisia and Uganda on December 23, 27 and 30 respectively.

Meanwhile, the Africa Cup of Nations will kick off on Sunday, December 21, with hosts Morocco taking on Comoros at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah. The action continues the following day as Mali, South Africa and Egypt face Zambia, Angola and Zimbabwe respectively.

The Super Eagles will be targeting a fourth AFCON title, having previously lifted the trophy in 1980, 1994 and 2013. They finished runners-up at the last edition in Ivory Coast, losing to the hosts in a thrilling final.

Eric Chelle’s side will thus be determined to go one better in Morocco and claim the trophy, bringing an end to Nigeria’s 12-year wait to be crowned continental champions.
