Former NBA shooting guard Kendall Gill has backed Chicago Bulls guard Ayo Dosunmu for a lucrative contract deal either with the Bulls or elsewhere following his impressive start to the 2025/26 season.

Dosunmu has been one of the Bulls’ standout performers off the bench, consistently delivering impactful performances on both ends of the floor.

The 25-year-old came off the bench to score a joint team-high 21 points, helping the Bulls secure a 130–127 win over the Denver Nuggets at Ball Arena, their seventh victory of the season.

In addition to his scoring, Dosunmu contributed five assists and three rebounds. Josh Giddey also finished with 21 points, 14 rebounds, and six assists, while Kevin Huerter added 20 points and forward Matas Buzelis chipped in 13.

Selected 38th overall in the second round of the 2021 NBA Draft, Dosunmu is averaging 15.7 points per game this season. He is currently in the final year of his three-year, $21 million contract with Chicago, and Gill believes he has earned a significant raise – ideally from the Bulls themselves.

“Someone’s going to pay this guy, and I hope it’s us (the Bulls),” said Gill, a 15-year NBA veteran and current in-house analyst for the team. “He is becoming the most valuable player off the bench every single night.

“He gives you solid minutes, plays like a star, and he’s trustworthy. He can knock down free throws in clutch moments, he defends well, he’s 6-foot-5, and he can guard four different positions.

“I’m not saying this because he went to Illinois – I’m saying it because he has earned it with his effort every night. Ayo Dosunmu has put together not only a great preseason but a great season so far, and he’s doing it while playing injured.”

Dosunmu was initially questionable for the game against Denver due to lingering injury concerns, but he opted to play through the pain and ended up as one of the best performers on the floor.

“He was supposed to be on a minutes restriction against the Nuggets,” Gill added. “He had a thigh contusion the other night and is dealing with a hamstring strain right now, but look at him — he still comes out and gives you 100 percent.”
