The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has defended its decision to lodge members of the Super Eagles at the Rive Hotel in Rabat, ahead of Thursday’s crucial African World Cup Qualifying Play-off Tournament clash against Gabon.

Controversy erupted on Monday morning after midfielder Alex Iwobi shared a video from his hotel room showing a ghetto-like view of the surrounding area. Social media fans criticized the NFF for placing players in what they described as a low-standard hotel ahead of the important 2026 World Cup playoff game at the Complexe Sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat.

In response, the NFF shared a video showcasing the hotel’s exterior, reception, rooms, and dining facilities, highlighting the quality of the accommodation.

The federation explained that the four-star hotel was selected primarily for its proximity to the team’s training facility and the stadium. NFF spokesperson said:

“The Super Eagles are camped at the Rive Hotel. What trended earlier was the view of an old building seen from a window. Rive was chosen because of its proximity to the team’s training facility and stadium here in Rabat,” the NFF said.

In a recent update, more players, including Ademola Lookman, Stanley Nwabali, Semi Ajayi, and Ama Obasogie, have joined the team. The squad is expected to hold its first training session on Monday evening.
