Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have returned home from Morocco following their elimination from the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, Bold Sports reports.
Bankole Olowookere’s side saw their campaign come to an end on Tuesday after a 4-0 defeat to Italy in the round of 16. Goals from Anna Copelli, Caterina Venturelli, Giulia Robino, and Rachele Giudici sealed a comprehensive win for the Italians and ended Nigeria’s hopes of lifting the title for the first time.
The Flamingos showed resilience during the tournament despite a shaky start in the group stage. They began their campaign with a 4-1 defeat to Canada and a narrow 1-0 loss to France, results that left their qualification hopes hanging in the balance.
However, a convincing 4-0 victory over Samoa in their final group game ensured they advanced to the knockouts as one of the four best third-placed teams.

Although their journey ended earlier than hoped, the team’s performances offered glimpses of potential and promise for the future. Coach Bankole Olowookere and his players are expected to build on the experience gained as they continue their development in international football.
Meanwhile, the quarterfinal stage of the tournament is set to kick off on Saturday, November 1, with Brazil taking on Canada, North Korea facing Japan, France meeting the Netherlands, and Mexico locking horns with Italy.
