William Troost-Ekong’s own goal proved costly as Al Kholood suffered a 3-2 defeat to visiting NEOM SC in their Saudi Pro League clash on Thursday.
Both sides started brightly, but it was the hosts who struck first in the fifth minute through Kévin N’Doram. Their lead, however, lasted only three minutes before Saïd Benrahma drew NEOM level in the eighth minute.
Things went from bad to worse for Al Kholood when captain Troost-Ekong inadvertently turned the ball into his own net in the 32nd minute, giving the visitors a 2-1 advantage. Benrahma later bagged his second of the night in the 66th minute to make it 3-1.

Ramiro Enrique pulled one back for Al Kholood in the 82nd minute, but despite a late push, the hosts couldn’t break down NEOM’s resolute defence.
The defeat marks Al Kholood’s fourth loss in seven games and their second consecutive setback. The Ar Rass-based side now sits ninth on the league table.
Despite the unfortunate own goal, Troost-Ekong delivered a solid individual performance — winning 100% of his tackles and ground duels while also recording six clearances.
Up next for Al Kholood is a trip to Al Qadsiah FC on November 6th, where they’ll be aiming to avoid a third straight league defeat.
