Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have been knocked out of the FIFA U-20 World Cup after suffering a heavy 4–0 defeat to Argentina in the Round of 16 at the Estadio Nacional Julio Martinez Pradanos on Wednesday night, Bold Sports reports.

The South Americans, seeking revenge after being eliminated by Nigeria in the previous edition of the tournament, wasted no time asserting their dominance. Alejo Sarco opened the scoring just two minutes into the game, converting from Dylan Gorosito’s assist to hand Argentina a perfect start.

Their early breakthrough boosted their confidence, and by the 23rd minute, Maher Carrizo doubled the lead with a superb free-kick that flew past goalkeeper Ebenezer Harcourt to make it 2–0.

Nigeria struggled to find their rhythm for most of the first half but had moments of promise. They appealed for a penalty that was waved off after a VAR check, while Daniel Daga’s effort late in the half was saved by Santino Barbi, and Kparobo Ariehi’s header hit the post just before the break.

Any hopes of a comeback were quickly dashed after the restart as Argentina continued to dominate possession, and in the 56th minute, Milton Delgado dispossessed Daniel Daga and set up Carrizo, who calmly slotted home his second of the night to make it 3–0.

Substitutes Gianluca Prestianni and Mateo Silvetti then combined to complete the rout in the 66th minute, with Silvetti finishing neatly to seal Argentina’s emphatic 4–0 win.

The result sees Argentina advance to the quarterfinals, where they will meet Mexico, who beat hosts Chile 4–1 in their own Round of 16 clash.

For Nigeria, the defeat marks another disappointing end to their campaign as the Flying Eagles continue their long search for a first-ever FIFA U-20 World Cup title.
