Three Nigerian players could be in action on Wednesday as the UEFA Champions League enters its second day, following an opening round of games filled with drama, comebacks and shocking results, Bold Sports reports.

Tuesday’s fixtures set the tone for a thrilling campaign, with Union Saint-Gilloise marking their debut in the competition by defeating PSV Eindhoven away from home.

In one of the biggest upsets in recent Champions League history, Qarabag fought back from two goals down to stun Portuguese giants Benfica 3–2. Elsewhere, Juventus and Borussia Dortmund produced an eight-goal spectacle in a pulsating 4–4 draw, while Arsenal, Real Madrid and Tottenham all began their quests for European glory with victories.

On Wednesday, Olympiacos will host Cypriot side Pafos at the Stadio Georgios Karaiskáki. Super Eagles defender Bruno Onyemaechi, yet to start a game this season, could feature for José Luis Mendilibar’s team as they look to kick off their campaign with a win.

In Prague, Nigerian duo Igoh Ogbu and David Moses may also be involved as Slavia take on Norwegian outfit Bodø/Glimt. Ogbu, 25, is expected to bolster the Czech side’s backline, while 21-year-old Moses, who already has seven appearances under his belt this season, will be pushing for more minutes in midfield.

Meanwhile, reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain begin their title defense against Atalanta, but Ademola Lookman will play no part for the Italians. The Super Eagles winger, who wanted a move away during the summer, was initially included in Atalanta’s Champions League squad but did not travel with the team, with uncertainty still surrounding his long-term future.

Other heavyweight clashes on Wednesday include Ajax against Inter Milan, Liverpool versus Atletico Madrid, and a blockbuster meeting between Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich and Club World Cup holders Chelsea.

With Nigerian talent sprinkled across Europe’s elite competition, attention will be on Onyemaechi, Ogbu and Moses to see whether they can make their mark on the grandest stage of club football.
