Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie marked her Women’s Super League debut with a clean sheet as Brighton and Hove Albion were held to a 0-0 draw by Aston Villa in their opening fixture on Sunday, Bold Sports reports.
Nnadozie, who joined Brighton after leaving Paris FC during the summer, was one of two debutants named in the starting XI, alongside Japanese defender Moeke Minami. Both players impressed, contributing significantly to Brighton’s defensive solidity.
The home side dominated possession in the first half and created several promising chances but failed to convert, with the scoreline remaining goalless at the break. Brighton continued to control proceedings after the restart, but Aston Villa’s defense grew more resilient, preventing the Seagulls from registering a single shot on target in the second half.

Despite Brighton’s dominance, Nnadozie was called into action on multiple occasions and stood firm, making four key saves to keep her side in the game. Her assured performance earned her a nomination for Brighton’s Player of the Match award, marking an impressive start to life in the English top flight.
Speaking after the match, Brighton head coach Dario Vidosic praised his team’s improved second-half display and their ability to handle Villa’s attacking threats: “We felt that it was coming our way. We knew there would probably be that moment for them in transition, I thought we dealt with it very, very well.”
“We know how dangerous they are. Basically, any chance there’s a turnover, you’ve got two of the fastest players standing up top ready to hit you in behind. But I thought we dealt with their transitions really, really well.”
“It was probably just that final pass that was missing, final decision. I think as it goes, round one, all that build-up for this week and then fatigue sets in.”
“I was proud of the second-half performance. I think both teams were trying to find their feet in that first half, calm the game down. Once we did then we looked quite good and in good patches in that second half,” the head coach concluded.
Brighton will aim to build on the positives from their opening-day stalemate when they face their next league challenge against Manchester City, with Nnadozie’s commanding debut providing a major boost for Dario’s side.
