Bayelsa Queens have booked their place in the finals of the 2025 WAFU B Cup and moved a step closer to securing a spot in the CAF Women’s Champions League following a hard-fought 2-1 victory over USFA on Tuesday night, Bold Sports reports.

Former Edo Queens forward Emem Essien played a pivotal role, scoring the crucial equaliser in the 15th minute before Janet Akekoromowei sealed the win with a stunning strike in the 63rd minute to send the reigning NWFL champions into the final.

USFA who finished as runners-up in Group B, made a dream start to the clash when a defensive error from Bayelsa Queens allowed them to take the lead just two minutes into the game.

The early setback, however, failed to rattle the Nigerians, who showed composure and discipline to regain control before Essien’s composed finish restored parity in what was a frantic opening quarter.

With the scores level at the break, Bayelsa Queens came out stronger in the second half, increasing their intensity and pushing for a winner. Their persistence paid off when Janet Akekoromowei produced a moment of brilliance, firing home a sensational strike to give her side the lead.

USFA pressed hard for an equaliser, but Bayelsa Queens stood firm defensively to protect their advantage and secure the win. Akekoromowei’s outstanding performance earned her the Player of the Match award, and her decisive goal is already being tipped as a contender for the Goal of the Tournament.

With the victory, Bayelsa Queens advance to the WAFU B Cup final, where they will face ASEC Mimosas of Ivory Coast, who thrashed Ghana’s Police Ladies 4-1 in the other semifinal. A win in the final would see the Nigerian champions book their place at the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League.
